In case you missed it, the Brit Awards last night were next level, and our TRNSMT 2020 nominees turned up!
Foals triumphed at the special 40th anniversary celebration taking home the award for Best British Group. The four-piece were competing against Bastille, Bring Me The Horizon, Coldplay, and D-Block Europe. Frontman Yannis Philippakis took the opportunity to encourage gender diversity amongst nominees:
“Hopefully next year we’ll see some women in this category.”.
After an incredibly busy and successful 2019, this award goes to a well-deserving group. The band released two albums last year: ‘Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost: Part 1’ and ‘Part 2’, plus hit the No 1 spot for the first time.
Oor Grammy-nominated pal Lewis Capaldi brought back two awards: Best New Artist and Song of the Year with his No 1 track ‘Someone You Loved’. Check out the performance of his breakthrough ballad at the awards on Tuesday night:
Gallus as always, Capaldi told the audience that this heartbreak track was not about his ex-girlfriend and Love Island star, Paige Turley:
"But it's actually about my grandmother who sadly passed away a few years ago," he said.
"I hope to God ITV don't contact her to be on a reality dating show."
Thanks for the clarification, Lewis.
Our 2019 TRNSMT fam also delivered as Mabel took home Best British Female and Stormzy with Best British Male.
