From King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut to Headlining Pepsi MAX presents TRNSMT: Lewis Capaldi’s Journey

When you think of global pop success stories, you probably picture arena tours and chart-topping hits, but every great story has a humble beginning. For Lewis Capaldi, one of the UK’s greatest singer-songwriters of the past decade, that beginning was far more intimate than the sprawling crowds he now plays for.

Capaldi’s breakout moment came from tracks that so expertly captured a range of emotions. Songs like Someone You Loved and Before You Go became anthems not just in the UK but globally, earning multiple chart-topping hits and widespread acclaim. The combination of his raw, honest songwriting, down-to-earth personality and self-deprecating humour has meant he’s quickly became one of his generation’s most relatable voices.

Long before he was selling out arenas and topping charts around the world, Capaldi began his journey in Glasgow’s vibrant music scene. At King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut, Capaldi first began to turn heads as a songwriter and performer, honing his craft in front of Scottish crowds. The venue may be small in size, but it has a legendary reputation in the city and beyond, thanks to part it played in launching the careers of major acts like Oasis, Radiohead and more. The venue symbolises more than just an early gig for Capaldi - it represents the spark that ignited a meteoric rise. Back then, everyone could see his music was made for bigger stages.

It’s fitting, then, that Capaldi’s connection to Scottish festivals has come full circle. TRNSMT, held annually on Glasgow Green, has become one of the UK’s biggest and best summer music events. After establishing itself as a place for both rising and established acts, TRNSMT announced its 2026 lineup, with Capaldi confirmed as one of the weekend’s three headline performers, alongside Richard Ashcroft and Kasabian. He’s set to close the festival on the Sunday, a true homecoming moment that reflects how far he’s come since his early days.

Capaldi started out at the festival playing the King Tut’s stage at the inaugural festival in 2017, so this year’s headline slot marks a remarkable transformation for him: from playing in sweaty, small-capacity venues, to commanding one of Scotland’s biggest stages with tens of thousands of fans cheering his name.

Tickets for TRNSMT are still available. Don’t miss out on Scotland’s biggest party this summer!
